Signed up for my first autocross event!

Going to an event in a couple weeks with the Windy City Miata Club. Should be interesting on the not so sticky stock FR-S tires. haha

It is a ton of fun! Find an SCCA group near you, their autocross events are awesome!

One thing that sucks, is when your roommate is your insurance agent. No chances of making any claims. lol

You're gonna have all the fun.

Coincidentally, I just signed up for my first track day!

Get brake pads and fluid! Otherwise you will have no brakes!

Haha, ouch! Insurance wouldn't even cover what I'm concerned about breaking anyway (transmission).

Like, new, higher quality pads and new fluid? Or just replace the ones I have now?

If you're in the Chicago area, I usually do the tsscca events; they're pretty good and worth checking out

Yeah, I'm up in Libertyville. I'll definitely check them out.

New higher quality pads and new DOT 4 fluid! That way you don't have a problem with the brakes. I recommend Project Mu, they make a fairly cheap intro level performance pad(for the FRS at least). Plus JDM swag.

If you can't afford pads, at least get some brake fluid. It is fairly cheap.

This is what I'm wondering, what if the car is still relatively new?

Dat JDM swag though.

Also, mounting a tow hook on my car is next to impossible without any kind of serious modifications, which is annoying.

My car has 1700 miles on it and I've already done 3 events.

Yeah, I've got 6,200 miles on the car with the original stock pads. Was figuring I should probably pick up a set for autocross days though...

That is pretty annoying. The FRS has pieces of the bumper which you can take out, and put a tow hook in, and when you want to take the hook out, you just put the piece back!

You probably won't need it for autocross. Will it help your times? Yes, but not as much as a new set of tires. I have done a lot of events this year, and never have my brakes gone bad. Don't even have a master cylinder brace.

Right on. I will keep the money from pads then and put it towards new wheels/tires. For the time being I'm planning on running stock wheels and rubber until winter, then throwing some Blizzaks on the stock wheels for winter, and buying a set of 57DRs with MPSS in the spring as my DD/occasional autoX wheel/tire combo.

I would look into to other wheels as well. MPSS are great for daily driving and last quite some time. If you aren't planning on autocrossing often then they should be perfect. If you want to do a lot of autocrossing, try into more aggressive rubber!

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out if I can afford (both $ and space) to be a 2 sets of wheels (DD/autox and winter) or 3 sets of wheels (DD, autox, and winter) kind of guy... lol

If you do get 3 sets, Hoosiers bro! I am just gonna be a 2 set guy. Gonna get some aggressive summer rubber and hope it lasts 15 to 20k, and have a set of winter wheels.

Nice! haha I will likely be a 2 set guy, until I move into a house and have a garage. Will likely go with something a bit more aggressive, but still good to DD. I will likely be running an autox event every month or so.

If you or someone you know has a Costco membership, I would look at their options. Cause awesome deal! Plus they have everything from economy tires to extreme performance summer tires!
